General Manager/Director of Golf: Heather Stewart
Heather comes to HGYC with over 20 years of distinguished experience as a Head Professional and Director of Golf at some of the finest private clubs across South Florida and beyond. Most recently, she served as the Head Professional at Canyon Creek Country Club for 6.5 years, bringing her wealth of expertise and passion for the game to our club.
Prior to her time at Canyon Creek, Heather spent five years in the San Antonio area, overseeing memberships at The Club at Comanche Trace and The Club at Sonterra. Her career also includes extensive leadership roles at premier private clubs in South Florida, where she cultivated a reputation for excellence in golf operations and member engagement.
Born in Kitchener, Ontario, Heather’s competitive spirit and talent on the course earned her a spot on both the Ontario and Canadian Amateur teams. She was awarded a golf scholarship to Longwood College in Virginia, where she majored in Business Management. During her collegiate career, she helped her team win an NCAA Division II National Championship and competed as an individual in the NCAA Division I National Championship. Heather also competed professionally on the Canadian and Futures Tours.
After her playing career, Heather returned to Canada to further her credentials, earning her Class A status and becoming a Certified Level III Instructor. She was nominated twice for National Awards—Teacher of the Year and Junior Teacher of the Year—by PGA Ontario and the PGA of Canada.
Heather’s leadership extends beyond playing and teaching; she served as the Head Women’s and Men’s Golf Coach at Northwood University in Palm Beach, FL. Her golf accolades include winning the Women’s Ontario PGA Championship, being nominated for the TaylorMade-Gary Adams Award, and being a member of the Futures Tour in the early 1990s. She’s also proud to have coached four of her former students—David Hearn, Corey Conners, Brooke Henderson, and Alana Sharp—who represented Team Canada in the 2016 and 2021 Olympics.
Outside of golf, Heather is a proud family person. Her son Payne is an Assistant Professional at Royal Oaks CC in Dallas, and her husband David has spent 18 years working for Yamaha Golf Car, following 15+ years as a Head Golf Professional.
A fun fact about Heather: she is a two-sport national champion, having played for South Florida’s Team that won the USA Hockey’s National Women’s 40+ Hockey Championship Title.
